Rescue Me Labradors transports Labradors and their Labby friends from high kill shelters in Kentucky to new homes in New Hampshire. This note is from Rescue Me Labrador's owner Lisa Ahlgrim to transport coordinator Kim Santilli.I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. To share your Happy Tails, write me here.
Hi Kim I hope you are doing ok. I wanted to share a story with you since you are responsible for helping this dog and lady.. Moe (the dog transported to NH ) was a huge 90 lbs Labrador mix. I am talking huge. He was picked up by animal control, in Morgantown Ky and never claimed. Time was running out for Moe and things were starting to look gloomy for Moe. His sweet, gentle demeanor and his eagerness to please could not be overlooked. But he is a black dog and 90 lbs.In other words NO HOPE FOR MOE. I took Moe into the rescue program in hopes of finding him a good home in NH. Moe was then transported to NH to Bill Hill our foster. On Wednesday of this week, Bill drove Moe to his new home. He is going to a disabled lady in a wheelchair. I kept thinking to myself, "but he is so big", but yet so gentle. I was not sure how this would work. Last night while doing some errands I got a phone call from the lady who adopted Moe. She was crying so hard and I could not understand her very well. I thought something was so wrong... After she got calmed down, she told be that Moe saved her life. She said she had fallen out of the wheelchair and Moe braced his self over top of her and she was able to pull her self up off the floor and back in the wheelchair. She said Moe saved her life today. She wanted Moe to be a guidance dog for her and Moe was to receive training for this. She informed me that I could not have sent her a better dog. This lady cried with joy over Moe. She told me Moe was leaving for his guidance training in a few days and the trainer said Moe was the perfect guidance dog. Moe has not left the lady's side since he arrived. She told me she feels comfortable going places and going outside now that she has Moe with her. Moe will be learning how to go to restraunts and public places so that the two can go together. Moe will learn how to open doors and gets to ride the bus with her everywhere they go. Kim, I can't tell you how happy this lady is......She cried and cried and cried over the happiness she felt for MOE. She said Moe has proven his self to the trainer, and her that he is the dog for this job. Moe has a new life looking after her. Moe was given a second chance and so was this lady.......Thanks to MOE. This lady was rescued by MOE. I just wanted to share this story with you so that you could see what you made possible for Moe and his new adopter. I really believe that Moe has rescued this lady. Her tears were evidence of that. When this lady is in the wheelchair, she looks right into Moe's eyes. (he is that big)...lol Walk around with a big smile on your face today.....you deserve it....... Lisa Ahlgrim
